Open Programs and Grants

Serhiy Trofymenko, NAAEE/AED/Smithsonian Institution/EPA Fellowship alumnus, conducted a seminar “Fundraising for NGOs” for local NGO representatives. Serhiy, as a representative of local resource center for NGO development, focused on very important for NGO representatives topics. A lot of useful links of funding organizations were presented to participants. The seminar was accompanied with Power Point presentation and was very interesting to participants.

Tetiana Potapenko, Americans for Democracy in Ukraine alumna, conducted a seminar “Internet Resources for English Teaching” for English language schoolteachers and students of Pedagogic University.

We have held presentation fof Internet services and resources for members of “Young Journalist” club, organized by Oblast Library for Children.

Another group of English teachers learned about Internet resources devoted to studying English during a seminar “Internet Resources for English Teachers”.

Another training for the Volunteers School took place. This time it was dedicated to creation of mulrimedia presentations.

We have conducted seminar “Job Search in the Internet” for ECA exchange programs alumni.

Viktoria Solonitsyna and Serhiy Trophymenko, ECA alumni, presented seminar "Basics of Excel" for Volunteer School participants.

IATP center in Chernihiv hosted members of European Youth Parliament, who met in chat with their colleagues from other cities of Ukraine.

IATP center in Chernihiv conducted "Computer Basics" course for the group of people with disabilities.

Tetiana Potapenko, alumna of “Americans for Democracy in Ukraine” program, conducted seminar for English teachers, dedicated to “Internet Resources for English Learners”. During the seminar teachers had an opportunity to discover many opportunities of the Internet, including specialized web resources. This is not the first Tetiana’s seminar at the IATP center. We would like to thank Tetiana for her interesting presentations and initiative!

IATP users meet Mark Pomar, President of IREX, in Chernihiv.
On the first day of July Mark Pomar, President of IREX, being on a business trip to Ukraine, visited the IATP center in Chernihiv. For Mr. Pomar to get a better understanding of IREX impact and results of work, a meeting with the most frequent and active users of IATP was organized at the center. Among them were alumni, journalists, NGO representatives, doctors and teachers. Everybody had a lot to tell the guests (Mr. Pomar was accompanied by IREX and IATP administration members from Kyiv) about his/her professional achievements and the role of IREX and its programs therein. The skills acquired as the result of exchange programs and Internet access and trainings of IREX were stressed out as the most necessary and useful. Many of the present told that they not only learn at the center, but also give this knowledge to others - colleagues and students - conducting seminars for them. The participants had their questions answered by Mr. Pomar, who was also interviewed by a local radio station. Successes and gratitude of our audience gave IREX team more energy to go on with providing more quality services and continue satisfying their needs.

Presentation of the course "NGO Economic" prepared by Community Connections alumnus Igor Podgornyi took place in the IATP site. 12 local NGO representatives participated in the event. The course contains a lot of information about administrating of financial and budget activity of NGO and how to develop sustainable NGO.

Discussion about drugs between teenagers of Burlington and Chernigiv took place at the chat "Education against drugs", initiated by Valeriy Ryabuha (CI alumnus) and DARE police officer from Massachusetts. Peace Corp volunteer Bill Fordyce participated in the chat that made chat more interesting.

One more visitor from overseas visited Chernigiv IATP site – Paul Hacker, Culture Affairs Officer of US Embassy in Ukraine. At the meeting he discussed with ECA alumni some issues concerning various sides of the local life. Special attention was given to issues of collaboration with American partners.

Unusual seminar "Supporting and developing of the site" was presented to Chernigiv auditory by professionals from Kyiv and was very interesting for visitors of IATP site, who were working under creation of their own sites. Number of technical nuances, number of design nuances and number of psychological nuances convert the process of creation a site into the real art!

Regular meeting of English Internet Club took an opportunity to its members to familiarize with security basics of communication in Internet. How to save information? How to protect your computer? Answers on these questions added self-reliance to visitors of the club.

Seminar "Informational resources for journalists" for journalists from Chernigiv oblast took place. Representatives of 7 newspapers visited this seminar. After the seminar, there was a chat "Freedom of Word in Ukraine" between journalists-participators of the seminar and their colleges from Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Uzhgorod and Sumy. We are appreciated alumnus Valeriy Litovchenko for his initiative!

The second Grant Workshop provided to applicants an opportunity to find out all peculiarities of preparing grant proposition and to receive answers on the most difficult questions and so open the way to receiving a grant.

The second English club meeting took place. The English-speakers – alumni, progressive representatives of mass-media and authorities – had an opportunity to familiarize with searching techniques of different searching servers and to determine their preferences. The level of searching skills was checked with help of practical tests, which were prepared by Bill Fordise, volunteer of Peace Corp.
